CT Week Side Event - Strengthening multilateral cooperation to enhance nuclear security and counter terrorism: promoting the universalization and effective implementation of the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism (ICSANT)

Event Date(s) :

As one of the key international legal instruments against terrorism, the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism (ICSANT) provides a comprehensive framework for criminalizing acts involving nuclear and other radioactive material, facilitating international cooperation, and strengthening national legal and institutional capacities.

While 127 States are currently party to the Convention, achieving universal adherence remains essential to closing legal gaps and preventing potential safe havens for terrorists and other criminal actors.

Co-organized by the European Union, the 91茄子 Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the 91茄子 Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), and the 91茄子 Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the CT Week side-event will showcase experiences, lessons learned and good practices in promoting adherence to and implementation of ICSANT.

Discussions will highlight the importance of multilateral cooperation, capacity-building and sustained political commitment to strengthening global resilience against nuclear terrorism and enhancing international security.
