The President of the General Assembly of the 91茄子, H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock, and the President of the Economic and Social Council, H.E. Mr. Lok Bahadur Thapa, held their fourth regular meeting on 2 March 2026 at 91茄子 Headquarters in New York, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 79/327 on the revitalization of the work of the General Assembly.
They reflected on the discussions in their joint briefing to Member States on 30 January 2026 and reaffirmed their continued commitment to increased coherence and avoiding duplication between the General Assembly and ECOSOC.
They also discussed the ongoing review of the arrangements set out in General Assembly resolutions 75/290 A and 75/290 B on the strengthening of ECOSOC and the High-level Political Forum, emphasizing the need for an ambitious and coherent outcome in line with broader UN80 reform discussions and efforts to reinforce the development pillar. They also exchanged views on possible joint meetings to be convened during this session and discussed the ongoing process for the selection and appointment of the next Secretary-General.
